The Carbonless Shower Filters's PATENTED process uses a PATENTED filter media called KDF^®-55, which changes the molecular structure of chlorine by reversing the method by which chlorine is made. (Different from other filters, this redox media works more efficiently in HOT water!) AND CHLOGON, which is a filter medium using mineral salts and calcite that performs well in hot water. Advantages of Chlorgon is that it is effective in hot water, becomes more effective as temperature increases and it helps remove Chlorine and Chloramines, lead, hydrogen sulfide, iron oxide, dirt, sediments.

What is Chlorine and Chloramine?

Chlorine, commonly used in public water systems, is easily absorbed into our pores when we shower. As we breathe, we also inhale chlorine and other chemicals found in the shower water's mist! Chlorine can cause, and worsens, skin irritations and rashes. Chlorine can even irritate eyes leaving them red, itchy and burning! People can receive MORE exposure to chlorine and other chemicals during a shower than by drinking the same water!

Chloramine is produced when a municipality injects both chlorine and ammonia simultaneously into the water supply. This is done to reduce free chlorine's ability to combine with organic matter in the water thereby producing potentially harmful trihalomethanes, or THMs. Because Chloramine has less disinfecting ability than free chlorine, a higher concentration of chlorine is usually used to get the same bacteria kill rate.

Why KDF^® and CHLORGON rather than Only Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) for shower filters?
GAC is not recommended for hot water use because of the media being continuously exposed to temperatures to 105 degrees F. At these elevated temperatures some of the contaminants adsorbed by the carbon can slough off and re-enter the water (This is why HOT water should never be used with carbon drinking water filters). GAC is highly adsorbent and becomes saturated within just hundreds of gallons versus thousands of gallons with KDF^®.

Patented KDF^® process media consist of high-purity copper-zinc formulations. These substances exchange electrons or bond with chlorine and other metals contained in the water to create harmless substances.

Through this basic chemical process known as redox (oxidation/reduction), KDF process media work behind the scenes to rid your water of chlorine, lead, mercury, iron and hydrogen sulfide. The redox reaction also inhibits the growth of bacteria, algae, and fungi. As an added benefit, KDF media reduce lime scale, mold, and fungi in your tub or shower.
