OUR RATING: We have found that the AllerAir is a cost effective HEPA air cleaner. They are available in a variety of colors and sizes and have a great finish. The only negative we may have is that AllerAir is not the quietest air cleaner on the market... but they do have more features than other air cleaners on the market today. AllerAir's HEPA / Carbon

AllerAir air cleaners use a 4 phase filtering system.

The pre-filter traps larger dust particles and is easily removed and cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. It acts to stop the larger particles such as dust and lint from clogging the other filters.
The mass activated carbon bed (MAC-B™) filter adsorbs gases and odors. This is the process by which activated carbon captures gases and odors.) Most off the shelf air cleaners have a few token ounces of carbon sprayed on the pre-filter. This is not sufficient to capture more than a small amount of the noxious gases and odors in the air and for only a short period of time. The MAC-B carbon filter has pounds of activated carbon (from 7 to 160 lbs.) that will trap 90% of gases and odors that pass over it and for many months before needing to be replaced.
The 2 anti-microbial filters kill the airborne microbes that pass through them.
The HEPA filter traps the airborne particles. These filters, which were developed by the Atomic Energy Commission to trap radio-active particles, can capture 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. That is as small as some bacteria.

AllerAir's FILTER LIFE

Common Question: "Many companies state a certain number of years for their filters such as their HEPA is for 5 Years. Your systems always show things like "3 to 5 years depending upon environment used in." Who is right?"

Answer: We are simply being more truthful about the life of filters. If you have a HEPA filter in areas where there is NO Cigarette Smoke, NO Cigar Smoke or NO pets in the environment, the HEPA filter and Carbon will last the longest. When you get into situations where there are Pets and/or Smokers in the environment it is conceivable to say that this extra air pollution such as pet dander, smoke particles, smoke gases and odors will shorten the life of the filter. The HEPA and Carbon filters can only capture and adsorb so much. Most ALL advertised filter ratings are based on environments with NO pets and NO smokers. Instead of us giving you the best case scenario of filter life, we give a High pollution and a Low pollution rating which we feel is more honest and usable info for the consumer to know. We receive many calls from consumers who have purchased other companies air cleaners with a rating of 5 years asking us why it only lasted 2 or 3 years. We almost always find out that there is a Pet and/or Cigarette smoker in their environment. These consumers are also upset because they purchased the product based on a 5 year life of the filter. For anyone to say that a filter will last a specific time under ANY and ALL environment situations, to us, is not being really truthful.
